Coastal cruising with the locals

Tour de Bang Saen

This is a uniqe tour, not offered by any other tour company and takes you along a stretch of coastline which is free from foreigners and is a blend of traditional lifestyle with sustainable marine farming practices.
We spend the day cycling along the coast which has one of the largest muscle and oyster farms in the world. In addition we visit a mangroveforest which is home to a large colony of Red collared flying foxes, many coastal birds and perculiar fish such as the giant mudskipper.
This is an exciting ride with strange sites and happenings that really highlights the uniqueness of Thailand.Cycling in Bang Saen

Itinerary

We start the adventure with an early morning pick up at your hotel and head south east out of Bangkok. It will take about an hour and a bit to reach the place from where we star cycling.
The first few kilometers of cycling is along an elevated roadway with the ocean on the right and the local fishing port on the left. We'll take a quick stop at the dockside fishmarket to see the evenings' haul before moving on to the the mangrove conservation center where thousands of flying foxes have colonised the mangrove trees. Here we'll also have a light breakfast snack.
The following stage will take us through a century old community where we'll see the colourful array of gnomes and garden artifacts, the dying art of stone carving, oyster farming and lots more interesting places to see and visit. Just before lunch we'll pop into an absolutely breathtaking Chinese shrine. Lunch is at a friendly coastal resturant, and although seafood is recommended, we do cater for all other dietry preferences - including vegetarians.
After lunch we continue along the coast, past a fish sauce factory (hold your nose closed), through a mountainside temple and upto Khao Sam Muk - a peak named after a real life Romeo and Juliet story where the locals come to pay respect to these star-crossed lovers. This place is also home to a large troop of monkeys that roam around freely, much to the delight (and amusement) of everyone who comes here.
From here it's just a few kilometers to the end point, along the seafront promenade and beachfront walkway lined on both sides by palm trees. Our support van meets us at the final stop where we'll have a refreshing drink before packing up and heading back to Bangkok.Chinese shrine
